File Sharers and Artists: An Unlikely Friendship

////////////////////////////////////

 Hello! My name is Matthew Berger.  I'm currently a freshman in Lyra Hilliard's English 101 Blended Learning class.

This website is all about a somewhat taboo topic in today's society: music piracy.  Specifically, I will focus on the relationship between people who pirate their music and the artists themselves.  Though it may seem like these two groups would oppose each other, it has been shown that peer to peer (p2p) file sharing sites actually help artists.

By looking at a mix of both scholarly and popular sources, not only can it be shown that sampling and sharing music helps artists, but that past government measures used to counter piracy have been largely ineffective.
